The Michael McDowell Oration in Melbourne

The 2026 Michael McDowell Oration was held on Thursday 26 March 2026 at the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, bringing together members and guests for an evening of learning, reflection and connection.

The event featured a keynote oration by Professor Frank Oberklaid, Co-Chair of Thriving Kids, who shared insights into child health, developmental paediatrics, and the evolving Thriving Kids initiative.

The Oration was preceded by a members-only Clinical Skills Workshop, which focused on core areas of developmental paediatrics including formulation, office-based interventions, and psychopharmacology—providing valuable, practical learning particularly for early career clinicians.

The evening also included a networking reception, creating a valuable opportunity for the ASDP community to connect in person. The event was attended both onsite and via livestream, reflecting strong engagement across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

This workshop explored the unique challenges and opportunities of working in private practice. The workshop was designed for both experienced private practitioners and those curious about transitioning into private settings.

The ASDP Private Practice Workshop was held on 20 - 21 October 2023 at the Hilton Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia.
Themed "From Surviving to Thriving", this a two-day interactive workshop covered clinical practice pearls and pitfalls, the ins and outs of business and managing your practice and self-care. 

NBPSA 2021 Education Workshop - Melbourne

Our first virtual ‘spoke and hub’ Education Day featured psychotropic medication. We gained some key learnings on how to get the best out of technology in this format! Many thanks to Michael McDowell and Daryl Efron for their continued efforts in helping come to a consensus position on good practice in this area.

2019 Rational Prescribing Workshop

A rational prescribing workshop where participants enjoyed presentations, engaged in case study discussions and panel discussions focusing on approaches to prescribing medications in a variety of situations relating to NDB paediatrics, which included anxiety, ADHD, intellectual disabilities and disruptive behaviours.
